Carbon Neutral Targets set by Countries

Net-Zero Carbon Targets of some countries

More than 150 countries have set net-zero or carbon-neutral targets, but the deadlines and their legally binding nature vary. The most ambitious goal is a 1.5°C limit on global warming, as outlined in the Paris Agreement. 


Countries with a legally binding net-zero target

  1. Sweden: Net-zero by 2045.
  2. United Kingdom: Net-zero by 2050.
  3. France: Net-zero by 2050.
  4. Denmark: Net-zero by 2050.
  5. New Zealand: Net-zero by 2050.
  6. Hungary: Net-zero by 2050.
  7. Finland: Net-zero by 2035.
  8. Germany: Net-zero by 2045.
  9. Iceland: Net-zero by 2040.
  10. Austria: Net-zero by 2040.
  11. Chile: Net-zero by 2050.
  12. Switzerland: Net-zero by 2050.
  13. South Korea: Net-zero by 2050.
  14. Canada: Net-zero by 2050.

  1. United States: Net-zero by 2050.
  2. Japan: Net-zero by 2050.
  3. China: Net-zero by 2060.
  4. Brazil: Net-zero by 2050.
  5. Australia: Net-zero by 2050.

Countries that have already achieved/ nearing carbon negativity

  1. Suriname: Achieved carbon negative in 2014.
  2. Bhutan: Carbon negative by 2030.
